Framtiden nu

I am reading through Future Hype by Bob Seidensticker and writing a review simultaneously. Look out for that soon. This book really got my blood boiling

Having read half of it I’m starting to think that some of his thoughts are anti-human. Trying to stop us from constantly innovating and creating new amazing and sometimes worthless things is part of what makes us human.

For example he mentions in his book that we  did not gain anything from going to the moon.

Even if he would be right (which he isn’t) in that we did not gain any new technology that helps us in our daily lives going to the moon satifies mankind’s built-in curiosity. A far more important feat than creating new technologies.

I spent some time last week playing around with the Sony Ericsson X10. One of the key features is it’s integrated facebook/Twitter/addressbook application named TimeScape. It is meant to be a signature application that will distinguish SonyEricsson from other Android phones.

One might think that creating a Twitter client is easy. It is not. Once you go serious with Twitter there are only two ways to use Twitter: via twitter.com on your desktop computer or a dedicated client on your mobile phone such as Tweetie or Tweetdeck. After playing around with TimeScape I believe SonyEricsson have seriously underestimated how difficult it is to create a decent Twitter client. If SE are serious about their new found love for Twitter they need to buy Tweetdeck/Tweetie and make it an SonyEricsson-only application (which would be a huge loss to me since I rely on Tweetdeck)! At the moment TimeScape is a fun and cool demo app, not an app that people will use.

This brings me to their second “signature” appliaction, MediaScape.  MediaScape is supposed to organize my photos, videos and music. The problem being that about 100m users already have such an application called iTunes which Apple have spent the last ten years perfecting. Although there is alot of hate in the blogosphere around iTunes (much which I agree to) I still consider it a succesful product given that it is widespread and well used both by techies and non-techies. Are SE ready to invest in creating a better user experience than iTunes?

My point being: if SonyEricsson are serious about competing in the social media space they better be ready to invest, it is going to be a tough ride.

Jag har testat Last.fm tillsammans med Spotify ett tag. Smått menlöst men ändå roligt. Av någon anledning är det väldigt roligt att se statisitk över vad jag lyssnat på. Så håll till godo, här är mina favoritartister enligt Spotify:

Nu har jag installerat Mac Mini och Plex och kopplat till TV:n. Det funkar fantastiskt bra! Längre post kommer med detaljer.

Enda nackdelen är att jag spenderar jag alldeles för mycket tid på att kolla på Diggreel.
